Ellen Janette (Dollar) Gill

4 December 1921 – 24 January 2006

Ellen Janette (Dollar) Gill, 76, died peacefully in her sleep and in the company of family at her home in Dawson on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 after a short illness.

A memorial service is scheduled Saturday at 11 am, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, GA (near Parrott, Dawson), Dick Gill (her nephew) officiating. There will be a lunch afterwards at the Gill Farm, 8857 Jones Mill Road, Dawson.

Ellen was born December 4, 1921 in Bainbridge, Georgia, the daughter of the late John Hardy Dollar and Cora Belcher Dollar. Ellen was a resident of Albany for a number of years and moved to Dawson in 1975. She suffered a stroke in 1990, which ended one of her hobbies, driving.

She was a bookkeeper with Lilliston Implement & Manufacturing Company, Albany. She married Edwin Earl Gill October 24, 1953.

Ellen was a member of the Albany Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Dawson Lioness Club. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, cooking and traveling. In the 1960s, she was a Powder Puff drag racer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Cranford Dollar and George Littleton (Bill) Dollar; and her sister, Agnes Belcher Dollar.

Survivors include her husband and her daughter, Kathy E. Gill of Lynnwood, Washington; three sisters, Annie Margaret Dollar, Bainbridge, Dorothy Virginia Dollar, Atlanta, and Mary Erma Dollar, Winston-Salem, NC; and a brother, William Neal Dollar (John), Bainbridge.

For anyone wishing to send flowers, the family requests live plants: azeleas, camellias, and roses were her favorites. Otherwise, contributions in her name to Vista Care (hospice service), your church or your favorite charity, please.
